Local Group
Hunter Organic Growers Society
A community of people who are passionate about growing food in a sustainable way. Once a month they hold a field day where they can meet, exchange ideas, learn from each other and tour a farm or garden to get excited about producing beautiful food. Everyone is welcome, whether you are an experienced green thumb or just starting out with your first backyard vegie patch. Families welcome.
Local Group
Slow Food Hunter Valley
Slow Food is an international movement with communities (groups) in over 160 countries. Each community does what it can in its local area to support and promote the ethos of “good, clean and fair food for all”. Here in the Hunter Valley they advocate for local, small-scale growers and producers. They run the ethical produce Earth Market in Maitland and promote farm gate sales.
Local Education Providers
Purple Pear Farm
Purple Pear Farm practice and teach permaculture and biodynamics. The produce from their mandala market garden is distributed to the local community using the Community Supported Agriculture box system. They also run courses in permaculture, biodynamics and Skills for Living Sustainably.
